Distribution of free Note Books and school stationary to school children in the adopted SSSVIP
Village - Kancheepuram District

With the Divine Grace, Blessings and Benefaction of Beloved Bhagawan Sri Sri Sathya Sai Baba varu, Sri Sathya Sai Organisation, Kancheepuram District, Tamil Nadu, arranged distribution of specially made note books and school stationary to the primary and secondary school students of 35 schools located in the villages of Kancheepuram District adopted under Sri Sathya Sai Village Integrated Programme on 9th and 10th of June 2008. The specially made note books had on their jackets our Beloved Bhagawans photographs in colour and the rear end jacket carried Bhagawan's divine message on the greatness and importance of Mother Worship. A total of 27,000 note books and writing material such as pens/ pencils / sharpners / erasers and the like were distributed to 4064 students. The village Panchayat heads and other local dignitaries along with the Members of the Council of Management of Sri Sathya Sai Trust, Tamil Nadu and the State President of Sri Sathya Sai Organisations, Tamil Nadu participated in the function organized at various villages and personally distributed Bhagavan's Prasadam to the students. Each package contained Beloved Bhagawan's Photograph and Laddu Prasadam. In addition to the distribution of School Stationary to the school students Eight Tricycles were distributed to deserving physically challenged persons specially selected from economically weaker section from these villages. The impressive programme concluded with the offering Maha Mangala Arathi to Bhagavan.

Rural Youth Participation in Sai Seva
In order encourage the rural youth in the involvement of Sai Activities in their villages and also to galvanize them in to a cohesive core group for Prasanthi Seva, the Sai youth of Kancheepuram District, arranged to conduct a Cricket Match for rural youth selected from their SSSVIP adopted villages. A total of 72 youths fro the villages were selected, they along with our own Sai youth formed into 8 teams. All the matches commenced with the chanting of "OMKAR" and Beloved Bhagavan's photograph decorated with flowers adorned the cricket field where matches were played. Suitable Bhagavan's Sayings in the local language were displayed along the perimeter. Sri Sathya Sai Flag was hoisted with prayers before commencement of the matches. The majority of the rural population in the adopted villages turned up to watch the game and cheered their local teams with gusto. All of them were treated to Narayana Seva at the conclusion of the game and Bhagavan's divine Prasadam was distributed. At the conclusion of the matches the Rural Youth were given an exposure to Disaster Management Awareness Programme by our Sai Youth trained by our sate faculty.

Provision of Portable Drinking Water at Government Hospital - Namakkal District
Sri Sathya Sai Organisations, Namakkal District, in order alleviate potable Drinking Water problem for patients undergoing treatment at the Government Hospitable at Thirucangode, Namakkal District, installed a Mineral water purification R.O. Plant at the Hospital. The plant has the capacity of 500 liters of potable purified water in an hour. This has greatly felicitated and in the alleviation of the great need of 300 out patients and 175 inpatients of the Hospital. The plant was inaugurated on 28th of March by Sri K. Sundramurthy, IAS, Collector of Namakkal in the midst Veda Chanting and Sri Sathya Sai Bhajans. Sri M. Bhoopal, Member Council of Management, Sri Sathya Sai Trust, presided over the auspicious function

Gynaecology Camp for economically weaker women - SSSVIP Village, Chennai Metro, North District
The Sai Youth of Chennai Metro (North) District organized a Mega Gynaecology Medical Camp at Erukkuvai Panchayat, a remote village in the outskirts of Chennai. Erukkuvai Panchayat is a cluster of villages located near Ari Taluk in the Block of Tiruvallur District of Tamil Nadu. These villages do not have proper communication or access to Public Transport System. The cluster of villages forming Erukkuvai Panchayath has been adopted by Chennai Metro (North) District under their SSSVIP.

During health survey carried out by the Youth as a part of the Sri Sathya Sai Village Integrated Programme, a good number of women folk were found to suffering from gynaec problems and were shy of divulging their ailments nor go for any medical treatments. Hence, Sai youth decided to conduct gynaecology on regular basis. One such camp was held on 8th of June at the Erukkuvai primary school. Two leading Gynaecologists Lady Doctors, Dr. Manimekalai and Dr. Krishnamma, conducted camp and examined 260 patients. Those with severe abnormalities were identified and prompt medical treatment were organized.

PREVENTION IS BETTER THAN CURE
Bhagavan often remarks that "cause has to be treated rather than the effect". Hence, a video presentation on the know-how of preventive care about gynaec problems was made and it was very well received by the villagers.

FOLLOW-UP
Smt. Maniammal (35 years) of Manali village, who was diagnosed to be suffering from "DESMOID TUMOUR", was operated at "KUMARAN HOSPITAL", a corporate hospital in the city. The charges for diagnosis and treatment were completed borne by the hospital as part of the "SRI SATHYA SAI HEALTH CARE PROJECT".

Smt. Saroja (60 years, Serpedu Village) and Smt. Mariammal (50 years, Kandigai Village) were diagnosed as having an "UTERINE PROLAPSE", a Gynaec problem. They were operated at Kumaran Hospital for the same under Sri Sathya Sai Health Care Mission and they were under examination for post operative care at hospital. The hospital carried out a total Hysterectomy on the patient.

During the patients stay at the hospital Mahila youth and elders paid regular visits and instilled confidence in them.

AGRI CARE - SSSVIP Village, Chennai Metro North District
With divine directions of Bhagavan Sri Sathya Sai Baba the Chennai Metro North district has adopted 4 villages namely Errukkuvai, Errukkuvai Kandigai, Manali, Serpedu, under SSSVIP. These 4 villages comprise of population of 1000 people with 300 families. Survey of individual families has been completed in all 4 villages for arriving at Individual, Employment, Educational, Medical, Spiritual, Agricultural and Social Status.

The 4 villages comprise of around 500 acres of dry and wet land (Meagre output). At present under "Agri Care" a proposal to supply paddy certified seeds of improved varieties with genetic purity for all farmers of 4 villages for increasing yield by 30% was planned by Chennai Metro North District. Accordingly a meeting was arranged on 06.07.08 in which as many as 60 farmers from 5 villages participated with the official of Department of Agriculture at block level and private seed producer 'Raasi'.

Department of agriculture was requested to supply certified seeds of paddy with genetic purity and to impart training to all farmers on latest technology of "Semmai Nel Sagubadi" a system of rice intensification for increasing yield by 30% over normal method.

Wet land farmers were encouraged to take up the technology of raising seed farms. The yield from such farms will be used only as seed which will fetch farmers additional profit of Rs 3/- per kg over normal crop.

District President Chennai Metro North, youth coordinator, youth wing members, farmers, agricultural dept officials, private seed producer participated in the meeting. District President in his address informed farmers about the immense grace shown by Bhagavan Sri Sathya Sai Baba on villagers through Village Integrated Programme for their over all upliftment and requested farmers to follow "Semmai Nel Sagubadi" (System of Rice Intensification) for increase of paddy yield by 30% which will fetch additional income.

Asst Seed Officer and Deputy Agricultural Officer of Gummudipoondi Taluk, Agricultural Dept. distributed hand outs containing new technology of "Semmai Nel Sagubadi" to all farmers and discussed each step right from 'sowing to harvest'. All farmers enthusiastically participated in this technical session. Many of them clarified from experts many cultivation points. At concluding point farmers requested to supply certified paddy seeds of the following varieties on 12th, 13th and 14th of August 2008 for raising nursery. ADT 43 - 10 tonnes, ADT 37 - 5 tones, ADT 38 - 10 tonnes, ADT 39 - 5 tonnes, CO 43 - 20 tonnes.

A technical demonstration on 15th august has been arranged for all farmers for semmai nel sagubadi.

With reference to cultivation of water melon a representative of Raasi seeds discussed various cultivation practices and improved varieties. Many farmers of adopted village clarified their doubts and requested the firm to supply water melon seeds at concessional rate in the month end of Nov 2008 for raising water melon. Accordingly Sri Sathya Sai Organization / Seed Producer will work jointly for making them available of 'Sweeti' variety of water melon seeds which will provide additional yield of 5 tonnes thereby they will get additional income.
