|
| The following recommendations merged out of group discussions |
- The selected villages covered under SSS-VIP are to be adopted as per convenience of the Samiti / Dist. following guidelines already circulated during 32 nd State conference held at Jajpur. A detailed survey of animal resources and households with animals are to be prepared by end of April 2008. The proforma for the purpose is enclosed at Annexure-I.
- The district / samiti has to identify (if not done) Vets / Paravets as team leader from the
near by locality and atleast 2 Sai youths from the SSS-VIP village to actively participate in
the process. Sai youths to work as volunteer for the AH work should be educated
unemployed and should have the interest to work as a connecting link between the villagers
and the team leader. They will be given proper training about de-worming, vaccination,
first aid etc. A directory has been provided with the available information.
|
- The team leaders and the Sai youths should always be in close touch with the target
families throughout the year for total development in AH sector. However they can treat the animals of the village in large scale once in each quarter for better appreciation
and awareness among the farmers.
- The local veterinary doctor and the livestock inspector should be taken
into confidence for implementation of this seva project. Assistance from different Govt agencies
through different schemes may also be mediated for greater benefit of the people.
- The parasitic load of the area will be assessed by routine fecal sample exam twice a year
with the help of team leader / local VAS. All the animals till one year of age and the entire
herd of sheep and goats are to be de-wormed periodically as warranted. The cost of the
anthelmintics for the lower income group should be borne by the samiti. The farmers
should be made aware to de-worm their adult animals (above one year of age) at their own
cost as and when required.
|
Local LI & Doctors actively participating in the programme |
- All the animals of the village should be vaccinated against HS, BQ, FMD, Anthrax (only in Endemic areas like Koraput Dist.), Goat pox, PPR and ET.
The birds should be vaccinated against RD and Fowl pox. It should be routinely done before and after monsoon. If reqd. the cost of vaccine can be borne by the samiti.
- The farmers should be encouraged to adopt perennial / seasonal fodder
cultivation. A target of provision of 100kg fodder for each animal per year should be aimed at. Identification of free Gochar land should be explored with the help of Sarapanch and revenue officials. That land can be utilized for fodder cultivation. If required, the Govt. schemes for community fodder and gochar dev from AH, Forest, Soil conservation and Watershed dept. can be explored for better benefit of villagers. The cost of seeds and roots may be borne by the samiti.
Demonstration of fodder in farmer’s field can also be tried.
|
Integrated care for all domestic animals |
- Cent percent breeding coverage to breedable cattle through Artificial Insemination should be our target in conjunction with AH Dept. Stray bull removal will accelerate this process.
- Successful training programmes on different AH related skills and scientific & innovative
techniques be arranged for farmers and Sai youth workers in each quarter. This should
include improved methods of calf rearing, housing, dairy technology, vaccination, de-worming,
fodder cultivation etc.
- Activities like Biogas and vermin-culture, which are related to animal keeping and
agriculture, should be encouraged.
- Exhibits are to be prepared at State & District level to conduct awareness programmes at
villages.
- The State level directory of Vets / Paravets with contact details is to be published to enble
all to contact for any advise as & when required.
|
- In all the activities more no. of Sai youths should be involved and our effort should be to arrive at a measurable improvement in the economic condition of the target families of the adopted
village. Sincerity will be highly warranted since the time allotted is only from April-October 2008. A list of Govt. schemes available, which can be tagged with our activity, is enclosed for
reference of the workers.
Based on the resolution, different activities have been taken up at different districts.
