On 26th Jan Sai youth attended Republic Day function organised by Government primary school of Kantharpura an adopted village. After completion of the program a Gram Sabha was organised to discuss about the low cost toilet project. On 23rd March Sai youth visited Kantharpura to assess the progress of the low cost toilet project.
Sai Youth lady has taken up the Balvikas activity in Gandhinagar town. Presently, 50 children are regularly attending the classes. On 10th Feb sports activities for Balvikas students were conducted. On 17th Feb elocution competition was conducted.
A Brief Report on Disaster Management program conducted on 08.06.08
Sri Sathya Sai Seva Organisation, Gandhinagar had organised Disaster Management refresher Course for North and Central Zone on 8th Jun '08 at Nagarpalika Parishad Hall, Gandhinagar. The purpose of the program was to refresh the knowledge of already trained sevadals and to enable them to work effectively at the time of Disasters. The program was conducted by Disaster Management trainer Sh. Mukul Bochare, SSSSO Indore.
The program was started with invocation of 3 Aumkars and Veda chanting. Sh. Mayur Vyas District President, Gandhinagar welcomed guests and all 15 participants came from Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar & Baroda. Special guests Dr. R K Sama (Retd. IFS and Project Director Water and Sanitation Management Organisation - WASMO) and Sh. Mahesh Mod (Chief Fire Officer, Gandhinagar) were greeted with flowers and they inaugurated the function by lighting the lamp. Sh. Mukul Bochre Disaster Management Trainer specially invited from Indore for conducting the program was greeted with flowers. He then greeted Bhagwan with flowers.

The special guest Dr. R K Sama shared his own experiences of earthquake at Kutchh - Bhuj in 2001 and explained the importance of Disaster Management. Sh. Mahesh Mod discussed about the thrust of the Gujarat Government over the Disaster Management and phenomenal services of Fire Department in Disasters. He appealed all the participant to work with Fire Department Rescue Teams at their respective districts in Disasters to save human life.
Sh. Mukul Bochre took over the charge of the program. He was assisted by Sh. Nirmal Patel (State Coordinator - Youth, SSSSO Gujarat). The program started with the Importance of Disaster Management topic wherein a major thrust was given on the attributes of Disaster Management Trainee. A first and foremost attribute of a Sai Youth trainee is to have a complete surrenderness at the lotus feet of Bhagwan Sri Sathya Sai Baba with a Total Commitment for His Divine Mission. Any Disaster Management rescue activities is undertaken by Bhagwan Himself through His Divine Instruments and it gets completed under His observation and guidance only. This is the fact which every trainee needs to imbibe in the life and should work for selflessly.
Sh. Mukul Bochre further explained various types of Disaster and its impacts through audio visual means. After completion of theory part, participants were taken to Swimming Pool, Gymkhana, Sector - 19 for learning various Water Rescue Techniques. Even if one doesn't know swimming, how can he rescue a dying man in the water? He showed various water techniques with ropes, life buoys and life jackets. Also, he taught how can a swimmer save human life?. Sh. Rakesh Bhatt, Swimming Coach was also observed our rescue activities and he also shared many ways of rescuing people from the deep water. After completion of session trainees who had never tried to jump in the water also felt that they got rid of the water fear.
Thereafter participants were taken to Fire Station, Gandhinagar. Sh. Devidan Gadhvi Fire Officer and Sh. Chinubhai Soni Fireman along with their team of 20 fire trainees appx. demonstrated various rescue techniques with the help of huge mobile water tanks. Sh. Mukul Bochre taught a special technique to bring down casualties from the high rise building with the help of ropes. Special type of knot called "Fireman Chair knot" is used for the purpose. The techniques to use ladders and also to work over the ladders were taught.
After completion of the water rescue and fire rescue all the participants were again brought in the class room. Sh. Bochre showed various types of Knots of ropes used for various purposes. Participants practiced the same along with demonstration. Various emergency rescue techniques and especially a technique for shifting an injured man from one place to other on a stretcher were also taught with practical demonstration.
At last Sh. Nirmal Patel gave vote thanks to all the participants and especially Sh. Mukul Bochre for his outstanding training and selfless service to the man kind. The program ended with the Aarti.
